This is the start of the relationship. A 15 min free phone call for us to get to know each other, and for you to let me know what is going on for your child to help determine if Child Centered Play Therapy would be appropriate.
This is a 90 minute appointment (sometimes this will take more than one session) in my Play Therapy clinic. Preferably both parents will be present if possible, and without your child there. We will explore your child's current presentation and get a history of your child's life, and your experience with parenting your child so far. Common questions you may be asked include: 'when your child is finished with play therapy, what would you like life to be like for them?' or 'when your child is older and reflecting back on their experience as a child, how would you like them to describe their childhood and experience of being parented by you?'
After the Initial Assessment, your child will have their first Play Therapy sessions with me. Sessions are held for 45 minutes duration and are recommended in most cases to be held weekly on the same day and time.
As a parent, you are an essential part of the therapy process. We will meet as required (recommended every 4-6 weeks, more or less as clinically indicated), for up to 30 minutes to discuss progress, and how things are travelling at home.
Reports are not a standard part of the therapeutic progress. Progress, discharge and handover reports are available upon request and charged for at the therapy rate. Please contact us for a current fee schedule.
